Man, the State and War Kenneth N. Waltz
Publisher: Columbia University Press

Modern realists such as Waltz have further developed this concept of the cause of war and added to it. It discusses Kenneth Waltz's Man, the State, and War. This is one of a series of weekly review papers I had to write during my “Introduction to International Relations” course. United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Fragile States Strategy, January 2005. Waltz, Kenneth, Man, the state, and war: a theoretical analysis, New-York: Columbia University Press, 1959. One might think its strange to do a book review on a work published over 40 years ago, but too bad, I just finished Kenneth Waltz's 'Man, the State, and War' two days ago, so deal with it! Ken was the author of several enduring classics of the field, including Man, the State, and War (1959), Foreign Policy and Democratic Politics (1967), and Theory of International Politics (1979). As I learned in International Relations 101 (in the 60′s), the definition of Realpolitik is, a nation's foreign policy decisions being driven by its own self-interest (see “Man, the State and War, Ken Waltz). Waltz's version was to admit a degree of greater complexity, something he outlined in Man, State and War (1959). Writing in 'Man, the State and War', Waltz sets out three interrelated images of the causes of war.
